Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 cup milk
- 2 tablespoons melted butter
- 2 cups peeled and diced apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp recommended)
- Vegetable oil, for frying
- Glaze: 1 cup powdered sugar, 2-3 tablespoons milk, 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 large egg
Instructions
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together milk, egg, and melted butter.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Gently fold in the diced apples.
- Heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil in a large pot or deep fryer to 350°F (175°C).
- Drop spoonfuls of the apple mixture into the hot oil, being careful not to overcrowd the pot.
- Fry for 2-3 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through.
- Remove the fritters with a slotted spoon and place them on a wire rack lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.
- Prepare the glaze: In a small bowl, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth. Add more milk if needed to reach desired consistency.
- Dip the warm fritters in the glaze or drizzle the glaze over the top.
- Serve immediately and enjoy!
Notes
- For best results, use fresh, crisp apples.
- Do not overcrowd the pot when frying, as this will lower the oil temperature and result in greasy fritters.
- Adjust the amount of milk in the glaze to achieve your desired consistency.
- Store leftover fritters in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days. Reheat before serving for best taste.
