- Brownie Layer:
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- Cookie Layer:
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup chocolate chips
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9×13 inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang. Lightly grease the parchment paper.
- For the brownie layer, combine melted butter and granulated sugar in a bowl. Whisk in eggs one at a time, then add vanilla extract.
- Add flour, cocoa powder, and salt to the wet ingredients. Mix until just combined. Spread the brownie batter evenly in the prepared pan.
- For the cookie layer, cream softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar in a large bowl until fluffy. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract.
- Whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt in a separate bowl. Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Stir in chocolate chips.
- Drop spoonfuls of cookie dough evenly over the brownie batter. Gently spread the cookie dough to cover the brownie layer.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with moist crumbs.
- Let the bars cool completely in the pan before lifting out. Slice and serve.
Notes
- You can use milk, semi-sweet, or dark chocolate chips for the cookie layer.
- Do not overbake the bars.
