Description

These cinnamon rolls feature a sweet apple filling and a rich caramel glaze. They are perfect for breakfast or dessert.


Ingredients

  • 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 large apples, peeled, cored, and diced
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • ¼ cup caramel sauce

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine warm milk, yeast, and granulated sugar. Let sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. Stir in the egg, melted butter, and salt. Gradually add the flour, mixing until a soft dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
  5. While the dough rises, prepare the filling. In a bowl, combine diced apples, brown sugar, and cinnamon.
  6. Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it into a 12×18 inch rectangle.
  7. Spread the softened butter over the dough, then sprinkle the apple filling evenly.
  8. Roll the dough tightly from the long side and cut into 12 equal slices.
  9. Place the rolls in a greased 9×13 inch baking dish. Cover and let rise for another 30 minutes.
  10. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
  11. While the rolls bake, prepare the caramel glaze. In a small bowl, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and caramel sauce until smooth.
  12. Once the rolls are out of the oven, drizzle generously with the caramel glaze. Serve warm.

  • Ensure your milk is warm, not hot, to activate the yeast properly.
  • If you don’t have a warm spot for rising, preheat your oven to its lowest setting for a few minutes, then turn it off and place the dough inside.
