Ingredients
Scale
- 6 medium apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp recommended)
- 1 (14 ounce) package caramel candies, unwrapped
- 2 tablespoons milk or heavy cream
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Optional toppings: chopped nuts, sprinkles, chocolate chips, sea salt
- 6 wooden sticks
Instructions
- Wash and dry the apples thoroughly. Remove stems and insert a wooden stick into the core of each apple.
- In a microwave-safe bowl, combine unwrapped caramel candies and milk or heavy cream.
- Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until the caramel is completely melted and smooth. Stir in vanilla extract.
- Dip each apple into the melted caramel, turning to coat evenly. Lift the apple and let excess caramel drip off.
- If using toppings, immediately roll the caramel-covered apple in your desired toppings.
- Place the caramel apples on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow the caramel to set before serving.
Notes
- For easier dipping, you can transfer the melted caramel to a tall, narrow glass.
- If the caramel becomes too thick while dipping, microwave for a few more seconds to soften it.
- Store caramel apples in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
