Description

Cheese-stuffed pretzels are a delightful treat that combines soft, warm pretzels with gooey, melted cheese, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 1/4 tsp (1 packet) active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm water (110°F/45°C)
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp melted butter
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (or your favorite melty cheese)
  • 6 cups water
  • 1/4 cup baking soda
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • Coarse salt, for sprinkling

Instructions

  1. Prepare the dough by dissolving the yeast and sugar in warm water and letting it sit for 5 minutes.
  2. Add flour, salt, and melted butter to the yeast mixture and mix until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm spot for about 1 hour.
  5. Prepare the cheese filling by setting aside shredded cheese and mixing in any desired herbs or spices.
  6. Divide the risen dough into 8 equal pieces and flatten each into a rectangle.
  7. Place cheese in the center of each rectangle, pinch the edges to seal, and roll into a pretzel shape.
  8. Boil 6 cups of water and add baking soda, then boil each pretzel for about 30 seconds.
  9. Transfer boiled pretzels to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  10. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C), brush pretzels with beaten egg, and sprinkle with coarse salt.
  11. Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown, then let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • Use fresh yeast for the best rise.
  • Allow the dough to rise properly for a light texture.
  • Keep cheese cold until ready to use to prevent leaking.
  • Practice shaping pretzels for better results.
  • Serve immediately for the best taste.
