- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

- 1 tbsp melted butter
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (or your favorite melty cheese)
- 6 cups water
- 1/4 cup baking soda
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- Coarse salt, for sprinkling
Instructions
- Prepare the dough by dissolving the yeast and sugar in warm water and letting it sit for 5 minutes.
- Add flour, salt, and melted butter to the yeast mixture and mix until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm spot for about 1 hour.
- Prepare the cheese filling by setting aside shredded cheese and mixing in any desired herbs or spices.
- Divide the risen dough into 8 equal pieces and flatten each into a rectangle.
- Place cheese in the center of each rectangle, pinch the edges to seal, and roll into a pretzel shape.
- Boil 6 cups of water and add baking soda, then boil each pretzel for about 30 seconds.
- Transfer boiled pretzels to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C), brush pretzels with beaten egg, and sprinkle with coarse salt.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown, then let cool slightly before serving.
