Description

A savory grilled cheese sandwich featuring sharp cheddar cheese and tangy dill pickles on toasted sourdough bread.


Ingredients

  • 2 slices sourdough or rustic bread
  • 23 slices sharp cheddar cheese
  • 46 thin slices dill pickles or gherkins
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard (optional)
  • Black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Butter one side of each bread slice. Spread Dijon mustard on the unbuttered side of one slice, if using.
  2. On the unbuttered side of one bread slice, layer half the cheese, then the pickle slices, then the remaining cheese.
  3. Top with the second bread slice, buttered side out.
  4. Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat. Place the sandwich in the skillet.
  5. Cook for 3-5 minutes per side, until golden brown and the cheese is melted. Press gently with a spatula.
  6. Remove from skillet, let rest for one minute, slice, and serve. Sprinkle with black pepper if desired.
