Description

Enjoy a delicious and quick Chinese Beef and Broccoli stir fry made in just one pan. This recipe offers a healthier alternative to takeout with tender beef, fresh broccoli, and a savory garlic-soy sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound flank steak, thinly sliced against the grain
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil, plus more for cooking
  • 1 head broccoli, cut into florets
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1/4 cup water or beef broth
  • Cooked rice, for serving

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, toss the sliced flank steak with 1 tablespoon soy sauce and cornstarch. Let it marinate for 10 minutes.
  2. While the beef marinates, prepare the sauce by whisking together 1/4 cup soy sauce, oyster sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, and water or broth in a small bowl.
  3. Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the marinated beef in a single layer and cook for 1-2 minutes per side until browned. Remove beef from the skillet and set aside.
  4. Add a little more oil to the skillet if needed. Add the broccoli florets and stir-fry for 3-4 minutes until they are bright green and tender-crisp.
  5. Add the minced garlic and grated ginger to the skillet and cook for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
  6. Pour the prepared sauce into the skillet with the broccoli. Bring to a simmer and cook for 1-2 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly.
  7. Return the cooked beef to the skillet and toss to coat everything in the sauce. Cook for another minute until the beef is heated through.
  8. Serve immediately over cooked rice.

Notes

  • For a lower-carb option, serve with cauliflower rice.
  • Adjust the amount of brown sugar to your preference for sweetness.
  • If you don’t have oyster sauce, you can substitute with more soy sauce and a pinch of sugar.
  • Ensure your skillet is hot before adding the beef to get a good sear.
