Description

These cinnamon rolls are topped with blue cream cheese frosting and crushed Oreo cookies. They are a fun and sweet treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup warm milk (105-115°F)
  • 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg, at room temperature
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 23 tablespoons milk or cream
  • Blue food coloring
  • 1012 Oreo cookies, crushed

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine warm milk, yeast, and granulated sugar. Let sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Stir in the egg, melted butter, and vanilla extract.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until a shaggy dough forms.
  4. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and let rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
  6. While the dough rises, prepare the filling: In a small bowl, combine softened butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon. Mix until well combined.
  7. Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it into a 12×18-inch rectangle on a lightly floured surface.
  8. Spread the cinnamon filling evenly over the dough, leaving a small border on one long edge.
  9. Starting from the long edge, tightly roll up the dough. Pinch the seam to seal.
  10. Cut the roll into 12 equal slices using a sharp knife or dental floss.
  11. Place the cinnamon roll slices in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish. Cover and let rise again for 30-45 minutes, or until puffy.
  12. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  13. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through.
  14. While the rolls bake, prepare the frosting: In a large bowl, beat softened cream cheese and butter until smooth.
  15. Gradually add powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and milk/cream, beating until smooth and creamy. Add blue food coloring until desired color is reached.
  16. Once the cinnamon rolls are out of the oven, let them cool slightly before spreading with blue cream cheese frosting.
  17. Sprinkle generously with crushed Oreo cookies before serving.

Notes

  • Ensure your milk is not too hot, as it can kill the yeast.
  • For extra soft rolls, use bread flour instead of all-purpose flour.
  • You can prepare the dough the night before and refrigerate it overnight. Let it come to room temperature before the second rise.
