Description

Prepare creamy scalloped potatoes in your crockpot for an easy and comforting side dish.


Ingredients

  • 5 lbs Yukon gold potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 1 medium yellow onion, thinly sliced
  • 4 tbsp butter, cut into pieces
  • 4 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 4 cups milk
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the crockpot, followed by half of the sliced onions and half of the butter pieces.
  2. Repeat layers with remaining potatoes, onions, and butter.
  3. In a large saucepan, melt the remaining butter over medium heat. Whisk in the flour until smooth. Gradually whisk in the milk until smooth.
  4. Bring the mixture to a simmer, stirring constantly, until thickened. Stir in salt, pepper, garlic powder, and nutmeg.
  5. Pour the sauce over the potatoes in the crockpot. Top with shredded cheddar cheese.
  6. Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours or on high for 3-4 hours, or until potatoes are tender.
  7. Let stand for 10 minutes before serving.

  • For extra flavor, add cooked bacon or ham between the layers.
