A rich chocolate cake layered into a tower.
Ingredients

- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
- 1 ½ teaspoons baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup buttermilk
- ½ cup vegetable oil
- 2 large eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 cup boiling water
- Chocolate frosting
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour three 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Add buttermilk, oil, eggs, and vanilla extract. Beat until combined.
- Stir in boiling water until batter is smooth.
- Pour batter evenly into prepared pans.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a wooden skewer inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Let cool in pans for 10 minutes, then invert onto a wire rack to cool completely.
- Once cakes are cooled, stack layers with chocolate frosting in between.
- Frost the entire cake tower with chocolate frosting.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, use dark cocoa powder.
- Add chocolate chips to the batter for extra chocolate.
