Description

A hybrid dessert combining rich brownies and chewy chocolate chip cookies.

Ingredients

Scale
  • For the Brownie Layer:
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips (optional)
  • For the Cookie Layer:
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13 inch baking pan, or line with parchment paper.
  2. Prepare the Brownie Layer: Whisk melted butter and granulated sugar. Whisk in eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla extract. In a separate bowl, combine flour, cocoa powder, and salt. Add dry ingredients to wet ingredients and mix until just combined. Fold in optional chocolate chips. Set aside.
  3. Prepare the Cookie Layer: Cream softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until fluffy. Beat in egg and vanilla extract. In a separate bowl, whisk flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients and mix until just combined. Stir in chocolate chips.
  4. Spread brownie batter evenly into the prepared baking pan.
  5. Drop spoonfuls of cookie dough over the brownie batter.
  6. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until edges are set and a toothpick inserted into the brownie layer comes out with moist crumbs.
  7. Let the brookies cool completely in the pan before cutting into squares.

Notes

  • Lining the pan with parchment paper and leaving an overhang makes removal easier.
  • Do not overbake to ensure a chewy texture.
