Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar (plus 2 tablespoons for berries)
  • 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed

  • 1 pound mixed berries (fresh or frozen), such as blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease an 8×8 inch baking dish or 4 individual ramekins.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine the flour, 1/2 cup granulated sugar, and cinnamon (if using). Add the cold, cubed butter and use your fingertips or a pastry blender to cut it into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. In a separate bowl, combine the berries, 2 tablespoons of granulated sugar, and lemon juice. Toss gently to coat.
