Description

A quick and simple Mongolian ground beef recipe that you can make in under 15 minutes, perfect for a fast weeknight dinner.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup water
  • Cooked rice, for serving
  • Sesame seeds, for garnish (optional)
  • Green onions, sliced, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, cook the ground beef over medium-high heat until browned. Drain off any excess grease.
  2. Add the vegetable oil, minced garlic, and grated ginger to the skillet. Cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
  3. In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, brown sugar, ketchup, and rice vinegar.
  4. In another small bowl, whisk together the cornstarch and water until smooth.
  5. Pour the soy sauce mixture into the skillet with the beef. Bring to a simmer.
  6. Stir in the cornstarch slurry. Cook, stirring constantly, until the sauce thickens, about 1-2 minutes.
  7. Serve the Mongolian ground beef over cooked rice. Garnish with sesame seeds and green onions if desired.

Notes

  • For a spicier dish, add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the sauce.
  • You can substitute ground turkey or chicken for ground beef.
