Description

Prepare a tator tot casserole ahead of time and freeze for an easy meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 can (10.75 oz) condensed cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes, drained
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 2 lbs tator tots

Instructions

  1. Brown ground beef in a skillet over medium heat. Drain any excess grease.
  2. Add chopped onion to the skillet and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
  3. Stir in cream of mushroom soup, diced tomatoes, cheddar cheese, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
  4. Pour the beef mixture into a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  5. Arrange tator tots evenly over the beef mixture.
  6. Cover the dish tightly with foil and freeze for up to 3 months.
  7. When ready to bake, preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  8. Bake the casserole, covered, for 60 minutes.
  9. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the tator tots are golden brown and crispy.
  10. Let stand for 5-10 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • For best results, thaw the casserole in the refrigerator overnight before baking. If baking from frozen, increase the covered baking time to 90 minutes.
  • You can substitute ground turkey or chicken for the ground beef.
  • Add other vegetables such as corn, peas, or green beans to the beef mixture.
