Description
Prepare a tator tot casserole ahead of time and freeze for an easy meal.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 onion, chopped
- 1 can (10.75 oz) condensed cream of mushroom soup
- 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes, drained
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 2 lbs tator tots
Instructions
- Brown ground beef in a skillet over medium heat. Drain any excess grease.
- Add chopped onion to the skillet and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
- Stir in cream of mushroom soup, diced tomatoes, cheddar cheese, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
- Pour the beef mixture into a 9×13 inch baking dish.
- Arrange tator tots evenly over the beef mixture.
- Cover the dish tightly with foil and freeze for up to 3 months.
- When ready to bake, preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Bake the casserole, covered, for 60 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the tator tots are golden brown and crispy.
- Let stand for 5-10 minutes before serving.
Notes
- For best results, thaw the casserole in the refrigerator overnight before baking. If baking from frozen, increase the covered baking time to 90 minutes.
- You can substitute ground turkey or chicken for the ground beef.
- Add other vegetables such as corn, peas, or green beans to the beef mixture.
