Instructions
- Place the cut mozzarella sticks on a parchment-lined baking sheet and freeze for at least 30 minutes, or until firm. This helps prevent melting during frying.
- In one shallow dish, combine gluten-free flour. In a second shallow dish, whisk together the eggs and milk. In a third shallow dish, mix gluten-free breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper.
- Take a frozen mozzarella stick and first coat it in gluten-free flour, shaking off any excess. Then dip it into the egg mixture, ensuring it’s fully coated. Finally, roll it in the breadcrumb mixture, pressing gently to make sure the breadcrumbs adhere well. For extra crispiness, you can repeat the egg and breadcrumb coating steps.
- For best results, place the coated mozzarella sticks back on the baking sheet and freeze for another 15-30 minutes. This helps prevent the cheese from oozing out during cooking.
- To Deep Fry: Heat about 2-3 inches of vegetable oil in a deep pot or Dutch oven to 350°F (175°C). Carefully add a few mozzarella sticks at a time, being careful not to overcrowd the pot. Fry for 2-3 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy. Use a slotted spoon to remove them and place on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. To Air Fry: Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C). Lightly spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray. Place the mozzarella sticks in a single layer, ensuring they are not touching. Air fry for 6-8 minutes, flipping halfway through, or until golden brown and the cheese is melted and gooey.
- Serve the crispy gluten-free mozzarella sticks hot with warm marinara sauce for dipping.
