 - 1 pound ground beef
- 1 onion, chopped
- 1 can (15 ounces) tomato sauce
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 can (10.5 ounces) condensed cream of mushroom soup
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 cup cooked mashed potatoes
- 1 cup cooked egg noodles
Instructions
- Brown ground beef and chopped onion in a skillet over medium heat. Drain off any excess fat.
- Stir in tomato sauce, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and water. Bring to a simmer and cook for 5 minutes.
- In a separate bowl, mix condensed cream of mushroom soup and milk.
- In a greased 9×13 inch baking dish, spread the cooked egg noodles evenly.
- Layer the ground beef mixture over the noodles.
- Spread the cream of mushroom soup mixture over the beef.
- Top with the cooked mashed potatoes.
- Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese over the potatoes.
- Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 25-30 minutes, or until heated through and cheese is melted and bubbly.
Notes
- For a make-ahead option, assemble the casserole but do not bake. Cover and refrigerate for up to 24 hours. Add an extra 10-15 minutes to the baking time if baking from chilled.
- You can add other vegetables like corn or peas to the beef mixture for extra flavor and nutrition.
- Ensure your mashed potatoes are firm enough to hold their shape as a layer.
