Description

A simple recipe for making light and fluffy biscuits from scratch, perfect for any meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cut into cubes
  • 3/4 cup milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Lightly grease a baking sheet.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Cut in the cold butter using a pastry blender or your fingertips until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Pour in the milk and stir until just combined. Do not overmix.
  5. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and gently pat it into a 3/4-inch thick rectangle.
  6. Fold the dough in half and pat it down again. Repeat this folding and patting process 2-3 more times.
  7. Pat the dough to a 3/4-inch thickness and cut out biscuits using a round biscuit cutter.
  8. Place the biscuits on the prepared baking sheet.
  9. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown.

Notes

  • For extra flaky biscuits, use very cold butter and milk.
  • Do not overwork the dough, as this can result in tough biscuits.
  • You can brush the tops with melted butter after baking for added richness.
