Description

A classic homemade blackberry cobbler recipe with a delicious crumble topping. This easy dessert highlights fresh, juicy blackberries and is perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 cups fresh blackberries
  • 1 cup granulated sugar, divided
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) cold unsalted butter, cut into cubes
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 large egg

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large bowl, gently toss the blackberries with 1/2 cup of the sugar, 1/4 cup flour, lemon juice, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Pour the berry mixture into an 8×8 inch baking dish or a similar-sized oven-safe dish.
  3. In a separate medium bowl, whisk together the remaining 1 1/2 cups flour, 1 cup sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  4. Cut in the cold butter using a pastry blender or your fingertips until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  5. In a small bowl, whisk together the milk and egg. Add this to the flour mixture and stir until just combined to form a thick batter.
  6. Drop spoonfuls of the batter evenly over the blackberry mixture in the baking dish.
  7. Bake for 35-45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the filling is bubbly.
  8. Let the cobbler cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
  • Adjust sugar based on the sweetness of your blackberries.
  • For a crisper topping, bake an additional 5-10 minutes.
