Description

Make your own hot chocolate mix from scratch. This recipe is simple and customizable.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 ½ cups unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 ½ cups powdered milk
  • 1 ½ cups chocolate chips (mini or regular, dark or milk chocolate)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon (optional)
  • ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, for a spicy kick)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, unsweetened cocoa powder, powdered milk, and salt until well combined and there are no lumps.
  2. If using, add the cinnamon and/or cayenne pepper and whisk again to distribute evenly.
  3. Stir in the chocolate chips.
  4. Store the hot chocolate mix in an airtight container or a decorative jar for gifting. It can be stored at room temperature for several months.
  5. To make hot chocolate: Add 2-3 tablespoons of the mix to a mug. Heat 8-10 ounces of milk or water (your preference) until hot, but not boiling. Pour the hot liquid over the mix and stir well until dissolved. Top with marshmallows, whipped cream, or a sprinkle of extra chocolate chips if desired.
