Description

Simple sloppy joes made with tomato sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 green bell pepper, chopped
  • 1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon mustard
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 6 hamburger buns

Instructions

  1. Brown ground beef in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Drain excess grease.
  2. Add onion and green bell pepper to the skillet and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
  3. Stir in tomato sauce, ketchup, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, and mustard. Season with salt and pepper.
  4. Bring to a simmer and cook for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce has thickened.
  5. Spoon the sloppy joe mixture onto hamburger buns and serve.

Notes

  • Adjust the amount of brown sugar and mustard to suit your taste.
  • For a spicier version, add a pinch of red pepper flakes.
