Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 3/4 cups buttermilk

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the flour, baking soda, salt, and sugar.
  3. Add the buttermilk to the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Do not overmix.
  4. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and shape it into a round loaf.
  5. Place the loaf on a baking sheet and cut a cross shape into the top of the bread.
