Description
This Old-fashioned Stupid Pie is a simple, rustic dessert that’s easy to make with readily available ingredients. It’s a nostalgic comfort food perfect for a fun baking project.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 box (14.1 ounces) refrigerated pie crusts
- 6 cups peeled and sliced apples (such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 2 tablespoons butter, cut into small pieces
- 1/4 cup milk
- 2 tablespoons sugar, for sprinkling
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Line a 9-inch pie plate with one pie crust.
- In a large bowl, combine apples, 1 cup sugar, flour, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Toss to coat.
- Pour apple mixture into the pie crust. Dot with butter pieces.
- Top with the second pie crust. Crimp the edges to seal. Cut slits in the top crust to vent steam.
- Brush the top crust with milk and sprinkle with 2 tablespoons sugar.
- Bake for 45-55 minutes, or until crust is golden brown and filling is bubbly. If the crust starts to brown too quickly, cover the edges with foil.
- Let cool completely before serving.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, use brown sugar instead of granulated sugar.
- Add a squeeze of lemon juice to the apple mixture to prevent browning.
- Serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
