Description

An easy and delicious peach cobbler recipe perfect for beginners. This classic Southern dessert features sweet, juicy peaches topped with a simple, buttery biscuit crust.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 cups sliced peaches (fresh or frozen, thawed)
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar, divided
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter, melted

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine the sliced peaches, 1/2 cup of the granulated sugar, 2 tablespoons of flour, lemon juice, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Toss gently to coat the peaches.
  3. Pour the peach mixture into an 8×8 inch baking dish.
  4. In a separate medium bowl, whisk together 1 cup of flour, 1/4 cup of sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Cut in the cold butter using a pastry blender or your fingertips until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  6. Add the milk and stir until just combined, forming a soft dough. Do not overmix.
  7. Drop spoonfuls of the dough evenly over the peach mixture in the baking dish.
  8. Brush the tops of the dough with melted butter.
  9. Bake for 35-45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the peach filling is bubbly.
  10. Let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, use fresh, ripe peaches.
  • If using canned peaches, drain them well and reduce the sugar in the filling slightly.
  • Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
