Description

A classic Southern peach cobbler made with fresh, juicy peaches and a golden, buttery crust. This easy, from-scratch recipe is perfect for summer gatherings and tastes best served warm with vanilla ice cream.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 cups fresh peaches, peeled, pitted, and sliced
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar, plus more for sprinkling
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, cold and cut into cubes
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large bowl, toss the sliced peaches with 1/2 cup sugar, 1/4 cup flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Pour the peach mixture into a 9×13 inch baking dish or a 10-inch cast iron skillet.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together 1 cup flour, 1/2 cup sugar, and salt.
  4. Cut in the cold butter using a pastry blender or your fingertips until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  5. In a small bowl, whisk together the milk and vanilla extract. Add this to the flour mixture and stir until just combined.
  6. Drop spoonfuls of the biscuit topping evenly over the peach mixture.
  7. Sprinkle a little extra sugar over the topping.
  8. Bake for 35-45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the peach filling is bubbly.
  9. Let the cobbler cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • For an extra rustic touch, use a cast iron skillet.
  • Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
  • Adjust sugar based on the sweetness of your peaches.
  • Ensure your butter is very cold for the best biscuit topping texture.
