Description
A classic Southern peach cobbler made with fresh, juicy peaches and a golden, buttery crust. This easy, from-scratch recipe is perfect for summer gatherings and tastes best served warm with vanilla ice cream.
Ingredients
Scale
- 6 cups fresh peaches, peeled, pitted, and sliced
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar, plus more for sprinkling
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, cold and cut into cubes
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large bowl, toss the sliced peaches with 1/2 cup sugar, 1/4 cup flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Pour the peach mixture into a 9×13 inch baking dish or a 10-inch cast iron skillet.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together 1 cup flour, 1/2 cup sugar, and salt.
- Cut in the cold butter using a pastry blender or your fingertips until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the milk and vanilla extract. Add this to the flour mixture and stir until just combined.
- Drop spoonfuls of the biscuit topping evenly over the peach mixture.
- Sprinkle a little extra sugar over the topping.
- Bake for 35-45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the peach filling is bubbly.
- Let the cobbler cool slightly before serving.
Notes
- For an extra rustic touch, use a cast iron skillet.
- Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
- Adjust sugar based on the sweetness of your peaches.
- Ensure your butter is very cold for the best biscuit topping texture.
