Hearty Pizza Pot Pie

Description

A cozy and comforting weeknight meal that combines the flavors of pizza with the satisfying structure of a pot pie.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • 1/2 cup chopped bell pepper
  • 4 oz pepperoni, quartered
  • 1 (15-oz) can pizza sauce or marinara sauce
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 (13.8-oz) can refrigerated pizza crust or 1 package frozen puff pastry, thawed
  • Optional: mushrooms, olives, other favorite pizza toppings

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Prepare pie dish or skillet.
  2. Sauté onion and bell pepper in olive oil until softened. Add meat if using and cook until browned.
  3. Stir in pizza sauce, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 5 minutes. Stir in optional toppings. Let cool slightly.
  4. Press half of the pizza crust into the bottom of the prepared dish. Pierce with a fork.
  5. Pour the pizza sauce mixture over the bottom crust. Sprinkle with cheeses.
  6. Place the remaining pizza crust over the filling. Seal and crimp edges. Cut slits in the top crust.
  7. Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown and bubbly. Cover edges with foil if browning too quickly.
  8. Let cool for 5-10 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • If the crust starts to brown too quickly, you can cover the edges loosely with aluminum foil.
  • Let the Pizza Pot Pie cool for 5-10 minutes before slicing and serving.
