Description

A simple and quick recipe for perfectly seared ahi tuna steaks with a flavorful honey garlic glaze.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 ahi tuna steaks (about 6 ounces each)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • Sesame seeds for garnish (optional)
  • Chopped green onions for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Pat the tuna steaks dry with paper towels. Season both sides with salt and pepper.
  2. In a small bowl, whisk together the minced garlic, honey, soy sauce, sesame oil, and grated ginger. This is your glaze.
  3. Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat until shimmering.
  4. Carefully place the tuna steaks in the hot skillet. Sear for 1-2 minutes per side for rare, or longer for more well-done tuna.
  5. Pour the honey garlic glaze over the tuna steaks in the skillet during the last minute of cooking. Spoon the glaze over the tuna as it heats.
  6. Remove the tuna from the skillet and let it rest for a minute.
  7. Slice the tuna steaks against the grain.
  8. Garnish with sesame seeds and green onions, if desired. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • For a spicier glaze, add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the honey garlic mixture.
  • You can substitute tamari for soy sauce for a gluten-free option.
  • Ensure your skillet is hot before adding the tuna to achieve a good sear.
