Description
A simple and quick recipe for perfectly seared ahi tuna steaks with a flavorful honey garlic glaze.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 ahi tuna steaks (about 6 ounces each)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 1/2 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- Sesame seeds for garnish (optional)
- Chopped green onions for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Pat the tuna steaks dry with paper towels. Season both sides with salt and pepper.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the minced garlic, honey, soy sauce, sesame oil, and grated ginger. This is your glaze.
- Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat until shimmering.
- Carefully place the tuna steaks in the hot skillet. Sear for 1-2 minutes per side for rare, or longer for more well-done tuna.
- Pour the honey garlic glaze over the tuna steaks in the skillet during the last minute of cooking. Spoon the glaze over the tuna as it heats.
- Remove the tuna from the skillet and let it rest for a minute.
- Slice the tuna steaks against the grain.
- Garnish with sesame seeds and green onions, if desired. Serve immediately.
Notes
- For a spicier glaze, add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the honey garlic mixture.
- You can substitute tamari for soy sauce for a gluten-free option.
- Ensure your skillet is hot before adding the tuna to achieve a good sear.
