Ingredients

- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- Royal icing for decoration
- Food coloring for icing
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in egg and vanilla extract.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together flour and baking powder.
- Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients, mixing until a dough forms.
- Roll out dough on a lightly floured surface and cut out circles using a cookie cutter.
- Place cookies on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until edges are lightly golden.
- Let cookies cool completely on a wire rack.
- Prepare royal icing and divide into separate bowls. Add food coloring to each bowl to achieve desired colors.
- Decorate cooled cookies with royal icing.
- Let icing set completely before serving.

- For best results, use gel food coloring for icing.
- Store decorated cookies in an airtight container at room temperature.
