Ingredients
Scale
- 2 tuna steaks (about 6 ounces each)
- 1 tablespoon Cajun seasoning
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- Lemon wedges, for serving
Instructions
- Pat the tuna steaks dry with paper towels.
- In a small bowl, combine the Cajun seasoning, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and cayenne pepper (if using).
- Rub the spice mixture evenly over both sides of the tuna steaks.
- Heat the olive oil in a cast-iron skillet or heavy-bottomed pan over medium-high heat until shimmering.
- Carefully place the tuna steaks in the hot skillet.
- Sear for 2-3 minutes per side for medium-rare, or longer depending on your desired doneness.
- Remove from skillet and let rest for a minute.
- Serve immediately with lemon wedges.
Notes
- For a spicier kick, increase the amount of cayenne pepper.
- Ensure your skillet is very hot before adding the tuna to achieve a good sear.
- Tuna is best served medium-rare to medium; overcooking will make it dry.
