- 1.5 lbs ground beef
- 0.5 lb Italian sausage, removed from casings
- 1 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh basil
- 1 tbsp dried oregano
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 large egg, beaten
- 1/2 cup milk
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 8 oz mozzarella cheese, sliced
- 1/2 cup marinara sauce (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large bowl, combine ground beef, Italian sausage, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, parsley, basil, oregano, garlic, egg, milk, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
- On a large baking sheet, flatten half of the meat mixture into a rectangle, about 1 inch thick.
- Layer mozzarella cheese slices over the meat.
- Carefully place the remaining meat mixture over the cheese, sealing the edges to form a loaf.
- Bake for 60-75 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C).
- Let it rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
- Optionally, top with marinara sauce before serving.
