Description

This Stuffed Italian Meatloaf with Cheese & Herbs recipe transforms a classic comfort food into a flavorful and impressive dish. Italian sausage, a blend of cheeses, and fresh herbs create a delicious filling that elevates your meatloaf to gourmet status.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1.5 lbs ground beef
  • 0.5 lb Italian sausage, removed from casings
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh basil
  • 1 tbsp dried oregano
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 8 oz mozzarella cheese, sliced
  • 1/2 cup marinara sauce (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, Italian sausage, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, parsley, basil, oregano, garlic, egg, milk, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
  3. On a large baking sheet, flatten half of the meat mixture into a rectangle, about 1 inch thick.
  4. Layer mozzarella cheese slices over the meat.
  5. Carefully place the remaining meat mixture over the cheese, sealing the edges to form a loaf.
  6. Bake for 60-75 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C).
  7. Let it rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
  8. Optionally, top with marinara sauce before serving.

Notes

  • For a spicier meatloaf, use hot Italian sausage.
  • You can substitute provolone or any other cheese that melts well for the mozzarella.
  • Add finely chopped vegetables like onions, carrots, or bell peppers to the meat mixture for added flavor and nutrients.
  • Serve with a side of roasted vegetables or mashed potatoes for a complete meal.
